Pastor Vaughn's Day by Day

Question & Answer
A coworker emailed the following question today:

Vaughn,

Reading the Kings, how come it is allowed for them to have many wives?

The following was my response:

Good question.  It was not and is not actually allowed.  God gives complete accounts in the bible of what took place without condoning those things.  For instance, David had an affair with a married woman and He was the king at the time.  God doesn’t condone it but He does tell us exactly what took place.  Abram also slept with his wife Sarai’s Egyptian maidservant at his wife’s request.  It wasn’t right or condoned by God but God tells us the whole story.  If you look deeply you see all of the judgment and consequences that arise from multiple wives stories in the bible as well as the consequences of other sins.  God has an interesting way of telling us what’s right and wrong.  Sometimes He says “this is wrong” other times He says “this is right” and by default that makes other things wrong and sometimes He doesn’t say anything at all, He just declares that if His  Spirit lives inside of you then you will know what is right and what is wrong without having it in writing.  The body of believers, that we call the church, is referred to in the bible as the “bride” of Christ.  God says that He has and there is only one bride and that there is and we are called to have only one groom and He is the God/Man Jesus Christ.  If we have another “groom” no matter who or what it is, we are in adultery and do not truly love Him.

You may find it interesting to know that I was asked this question today while I was praying for a couple I'm marrying tomorrow.   While I don't think it a coincidence I also don't need God to explain His timing to me in writing or confirm it with a miracle in lightning and thunder.  His Spirit lives in me and has already clearly confirmed for me that He is up to something... What is He up to in you?

God is slowly restoring the passion I once had for Him but this time He is showing me little by little what it takes to keep that passion consistent, which is seeking Him first in all aspects of my life through prayer and reading.
